We will take a tour between the neighborhoods of Barra and Rio Vermelho where we will visit the Fort of Santa Maria, the Memorial Casa de Jorge Amado and the Rio Vermelho Market, nicknamed Ceasinha.
Located on the Porto da Barra beach, the fort of Santa Maria was built to defend the Bay of All Saints. Nowdays the place was transformed into a cultural space with an interactive exhibition of the photographer and ethnographer Pierre Verger where you will learn more about photography and see old photos of Salvador.
We will continue our tour towards the neighborhood of Rio Vermelho, considered one of the most bohemian in the city. We will visit the memorial “A Casa do Rio Vermelho”, which was once the home of the writers Jorge Amado and Zélia Gattai. We will see that this space is not limited to the history of the writers, but also of the characters that helped to forge the identity of Bahia that they presented to the world. Right after the visit, we will proceed to the Rio Vermelho Market (Ceasinha), a showcase not only for Bahia’s handicrafts but also for it’s regional cuisine. We can stop for shopping, tasting regional fruits and enjoy a tasty and typical lunch.
Duration: 6 hours. This tour can’t be done on Tuesday and Sunday
